Matilda “Tille” Rodriguez (September 27, 1932- May 6, 2015)

Matilda Rodriguez (you probably knew her as “Tillie”) entered eternal life on Wednesday the 6th of May by way of the Vitas Hospice Center.  She lived by her own rules and would not allow Cancer to take away her independence.  Her spirit is carried on through her 8 children and numerous grand, great, and great great grandchildren. Her husband of 53 years Gonzalo Rodriguez will now have to figure out how to turn on and use many devices throughout the house such as the TV remote, house phone, and microwave.

“Tillie” is now off enjoying the company of her five older brothers Alphonso, Cody, Dominic, Larry, and Ines, who all got to the party before her.  She left behind her two younger sisters Yolanda, and Grace.  I’m sure “In the Mood” is playing and her and Dominic are setting the dance floor on fire.  Her parents Ines and Irene better keep a close eye on that party.  On the times she is not cutting a rug, playing (and creatively “inventing” the highest scoring words) at Scrabble, watching Turner Classic Movies, or reading a good book, she will be guardian angel to many.

Matilda Rodriguez was born on September 27, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas.  She grew up with her brothers and sisters in East Chicago, Indiana.  She was highly intelligent and her biggest regret is not being able to beat out her arch rival for the title of valedictorian throughout her school years.  She made her home in the beautiful city of Chicago, where she endured many losses by various sports teams.  Thank God for Toni Kukoc her favorite Chicago Bull.  In Chicago she raised her children and their children with unlimited love and loyalty.  She kept a home stocked with goodies of all sorts for them all to enjoy (because she couldn’t eat them due to her diabetes) or so she would claim. She filled her family’s lives with an astronomical amount of laughs and memories, never being one to back out of a smart comment.  Thus leaving behind a whole generation of hilariously quick witted individuals for the world to enjoy.
