Marco Antonio Chavez Garcia

November 25, 1964 — May 24, 2023

Marco Antonio Chavez Garcia, 58, passed away from cancer in his home in South Chicago, on May 24, 2023 at 10 pm. He was well loved and cared for until his final breath, with his two children holding his hands, he passed away peacefully in his sleep listening to his favorite music.

Marco A. Chavez Garcia, son of Maria Guadalupe Chavez, was born on November 25, 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He grew up with no father but a strong mother who made sure her son understood the value of friends and family that stand by you when you struggle and are always there to celebrate your achievements. Making a long journey from Mexico, he spent most of his younger days in the streets of East Los Angeles. He always found a way to make people smile, and even though he has moved far from everyone and has made a life for himself, he has still managed to maintain those friendships from decades ago to this day.

He was an earnest man who was known to push forward and find solutions to all problems, whether his disabilities or his medical conditions, all for the sake of his two children, Marco Antonio Chavez Jr. and Ana Guadalupe Chavez who needed their father and his mother, God bless her soul. He even instilled the value of academics to his children by being an example himself, by attending the school for the blind at The Chicago Lighthouse and graduating to show that if you put your heart into it you can always succeed.

His devotion for his children was something anyone could see, and his compassionate heart always tried to help as many as he could in any way he could, whether being a shoulder to cry on, giving advice, he always lifted their spirits up or even tried to present in his friends lives despite his failing health. These friendships that surpassed the passage of time and space are just of the many things that Marco has left his children with, no matter how much time passes Marco will always be dearly remembered as a hardworking, honorable, and caring man with two rambunctiously wild children that were always by his side.

The impact his death leaves is one that will never be filled. Only now do we realize how short and special life is and that behind every smile is an untold story that maybe not everyone knows. Not many knew that Marco was fighting cancer, and those that did find it hard to accept that he had passed, its bittersweet and we knew that there was no choice but to accept the outcome and hold hope. The pain he felt fighting his cancer was immense and difficult, despite being denied medical treatments he tried several home remedies and hoped they would prolong his life just a little more so that he could see his future grandchildren.

The legacy of his compassion, his kindness, and even his stubbornness is carried by both his children. Marco Antonio Chavez Garcia was a man that through pain and sickness, always wanted his children to smile, laugh together and be strong no matter what happened.

With all my heart dad, we’re always going to love you and remember you for the strong man you always were. Nothing will ever take away the pride we feel for being your children and having you as a father. Thank you for being our center, our support, and answering the phone whenever we needed your help because we felt lost or needed help. Thank you for all the years you gave us, Lupe and me. I love you little boy. I'll carry you in my heart always. Gracias por todo.

Siempre te voy a necesitar papá a ti, a tus abrazos, y a tus consejos … te voy a extrañar.
