Querido esposo de Maria Del Rosario Cortez (Montes) Padre amoroso de Horacio, Rodrigo y Yessenia. Abuelo cariñoso de Rheanna Cristina Cortez,  Rodrigo Alonzo Cortez, Romina Clarissa Cortez, Joshua Adrian Padilla, Anayah Rosario Padilla. Querido hermano de Refugio, Mercedes, Vicente, Filemon, Salvador, Eva, Ramon, Irma, Víctor, Elvia, Armando, Norma, Amable tío de muchos sobrinos y sobrinas. Precedido en muerte por sus padres: Ramon & Luz Cortez.

Alfonso nació en un pequeño pueblo llamado Huitzila el 1 de septiembre de 1951. Huitzila está ubicado en la Sierra Madre Occidental a una altitud de más de 6,000 pies sobre el nivel del mar en el sur del estado de Zacatecas en México. La principal actividad económica es la ganadería, la agricultura y la producción de mezcal. Un tequila local del que Alfonso disfrutaría hasta el día de hoy.

El tercero mayor de trece originalmente 12 solo más tarde como adulto descubrió que tenía un medio hermano. Alfonso, junto con sus otros hermanos y familiares inmediatos lo recibieron como uno de los suyos. Esta aceptación es una de las muchas características que hacen que Alfonso sea único. Su capacidad para unir a familiares y amigos combinada con la compasión por los demás, independientemente de las diferentes opiniones sobre la vida o la filosofía personal.

Cuando era un adulto joven, estar expuesto a un clima hermoso durante todo el año, un terreno montañoso con aire fresco y la vida en la granja no fue suficiente para evitar que Alfonso persiguiera otros intereses y explorara. La población había ido disminuyendo para la ciudad de Guadalajara y Estados Unidos. Alfonso exploró por primera vez oportunidades en ciudades cercanas más grandes, Guadalajara y, finalmente, en los EE. UU. Cuando era un joven soltero, exploró oportunidades laborales como trabajos de yeso y construcción en la ciudad de Guadalajara. Más tarde, en los años 70, encontraría oportunidades en Idaho en las granjas de papa y la agricultura local.

A mediados y finales de los anos 70s regresó a su ciudad natal de Huitzila para reunirse con familiares y amigos. Alfonso conocería y se casaría con su esposa María Del Rosario Montes en el pueblo en el que ambos nacieron y se conocieron. Eventualmente, se mudarían a Chicago, Illinois para comenzar su vida juntos. Eligieron Chicago por muchas razones; muchos otros hermanos, parientes y amigos habían encontrado oportunidades allí.

Alfonso y María compraron su casa en los años 80s y luego se dedicarían a la compra de otros inmuebles. Mientras criaba y educaba a sus hijos, tuvo numerosas ocupaciones, desde trabajar para una fábrica construyendo cajas de cartón para los centros de distribución de bebidas locales, centros de reciclaje, desguaces, mejoras para el hogar,… etc. Junto con la ayuda de algún cuñado decidió iniciar un servicio de jardinería a finales de los noventa. Sin comprometerse a tiempo completo al principio, solo por las tardes después de su trabajo diario. Alfonso, no tenía experiencia en la gestión de un negocio, marketing o incluso ventas. Sin embargo, su capacidad para ganarse a la gente con su encanto, confiabilidad y consistencia a lo largo del tiempo dio sus frutos. Decidió operar el negocio a tiempo completo. El negocio se volvió rentable y brindó oportunidades para estos hijos e hija e incluso sobrinos y sobrinos y amigos a los que les proporcionaría empleo a lo largo de los años.

Su dedicación a su familia inculcó en Alfonso una sólida ética de trabajo. Además de administrar su negocio, Alfonso se tomaba el tiempo para transmitir sus conocimientos compartiendo sus habilidades y destrezas, brindando consejos sobre mejoras para el hogar e incluso ensuciándose las manos. Su familia llegaría a confiar en su capacidad para echar una mano. Alfonso nunca se negaría a ayudar de ninguna manera. Falleció en su casa a la edad de 69 años. Fue amado por muchos, admirado, confiado, trajo alegría a aquellos que tomarían tiempo para escuchar sus historias de sus muchas aventuras.

Alfonso was born in a small town called Huitzila on September 1st 1951. Huitzila is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental at an altitude of over 6,000 feet above sea level in the south of the state of Zacatecas in Mexico. The main economic activity is cattle ranch, agriculture and the production of mezcal. A local tequila of which one Alfonso would enjoy up to the present day.

The 3rd eldest of thirteen originally 12 only later as an adult discovering he had a half brother.  Alfonso, along with his other siblings and immediate family members welcomed him in as one of his own. This acceptance is one of many characteristics that makes Alfonso unique. His ability to unite family and friends combined with is compassion for others regardless of different views on life or personal philosophy.

As a young adult being exposed to beautiful climate year round, mountainous fresh air terrain, and life on the farm was not enough to keep Alfonso from pursuing other interests and exploring. Population had been declining in the town to Guadalajara and the United States. Alfonso first explored opportunities in nearby larger towns, Guadalajara and eventually the U.S. As a single young man he explored labor opportunities such a plaster boarding and construction jobs around the city of Guadalajara. Later in the 70’s he would find opportunity in Idaho on potato farms and local agriculture.

In the mid to late 70’s he returned to his home town of Huitzila to reunite with family and friends. Alfonso would meet and marry his wife, Maria Del Rosario Montes, in the town in which they were both born and met. Eventually, they would move the Chicago, Illinois to begin their life together. They chose Chicago for many reasons; many other siblings, relatives and friends had found opportunity there.

Alfonso and Maria purchased their home in the 80’s and later would go on to purchase other real estate. While raising and educating his children he held numerous occupations from working for a factory building cardboard boxes for the local beverage distribution centers, recycling centers, scrap yards, home improvement,…etc. Along with the help of some brother in laws he decided to begin a landscaping service in the late nineties.  While not committing himself full time at first only in the afternoons after his day job. Alfonso, had no background in running a business, marketing or even sales. However, his ability to win people over with his charm, trustworthiness and consistency over time paid off. He decided to operate the business full time. The business became profitable and provided opportunities for this sons and daughter and even nieces and nephews which he would provide employment for them over the years.

His dedication to his family instilled in Alfonso a strong work ethic. Along with running his business Alfonso would make time to pass on his knowledge by sharing his skills and abilities providing home improvement advice and even getting his hands dirty. His family would come to trust his ability to lend a helping hand. Alfonso would never decline assisting in any capacity. He passed in his home at the age of 69. He was beloved by many, admired, trusted, brought joy to those who would take time to hear his stories of his many adventures.

With respect to State of Illinois Guidelines of Phase 4 during this time of Covid -19, the visitation is limited to 25 people or less at a time, social distancing and face masks that cover the mouth and nose are required upon entry (face masks will not be provided by the funeral home or church).
